Ducted Hoods
Ducted range hoods remove cooking vapors from your kitchen and exhaust them outside through ductwork. This approach provides the highest level of ventilation performance and is typically recommended whenever exterior venting is possible.

Ducted Hoods
Ductless systems filter cooking vapors and recirculate the air back into the kitchen. They are often used in apartments, condominiums and homes where exterior ducting is not practical.
While ductless systems cannot remove heat and moisture as effectively as ducted hoods, they remain a practical solution when exterior venting isn’t possible—and modern technology has dramatically improved their performance. Understanding Ventilation Performance
Many homeowners focus exclusively on cubic feet per minute (CFM) when comparing range hoods. While CFM is important, it doesn’t tell the whole story.
CFM measures airflow. However, the effectiveness of a ventilation system also depends on how efficiently it captures and removes grease, smoke and cooking pollutants. In other words, two hoods with identical CFM ratings may not perform the same in actual use.
Vent-A-Hood’s patented Magic Lung® technology uses centrifugal filtration and an open-canopy design to deliver greater real-world performance than many conventional filter-based systems at the same CFM.
That’s why Vent-A-Hood provides both CFM and Equivalent CFM (typically about 50% higher) for applicable products. Equivalent CFM reflects the greater efficiency of our centrifugal filtration technology, providing a more meaningful comparison with conventional filter-based systems.

Equivalent CFM is a measure developed by Vent-A-Hood to help compare the performance of our Magic Lung® and Low-Profile ventilation systems with conventional filter-based hoods. For example, a Magic Lung® hood rated at 300 CFM may perform similarly to a conventional hood rated at 450 CFM, resulting in an Equivalent CFM of 450.
When exterior venting is possible, ducted hoods generally provide the highest level of ventilation performance. Ductless systems remain an effective alternative when ductwork cannot be installed.
Because island cooktops do not benefit from a nearby wall to help contain cooking vapors, island installations often require greater capture area and ventilation performance than comparable wall-mounted applications.
